Introduction:
This project was designed during the Product Studio II class at Parsons School of Design, where students were asked to develop a new product. I explored how remote workers interact with ordinary technologies and their colleagues during working hours. Through multiple iterations and user testing, I designed an holographic desktop that explores the potential of the surrounding space and new technologies by reimagining the way we work.
Research:
Remote workers have a strong need to maintain communication and a sense of community with their colleagues, which is often lacking in the absence of a traditional office space. However, this often leads to an overwhelming number of windows and apps that they need to manage and navigate. I was really shocked when realized the number of different software people use while working.
Design:
So I figured that rather than the billionth software, people need a new “container” for all this tools. I started exploring how holographic technology works and built low-fi and medium-fi prototypes to test my idea with potential users.

I then used the results of these tests to inform the development of a smooth onboarding process that facilitates easy user adoption of the holographic desktop. The goal was to design an accessible and intuitive interface that makes it easy for users to learn and interact with the new holographic technology.
Learnings:
A key challenge in this project was ensuring text's visibility and readability and appropriate color contrast within the holographic space. This was particularly challenging as the appearance of colors in mixed-reality environments depends on the color of surrounding areas and differs greatly from the digital and material space.

I discovered the importance of animations as a tool to improve how a product is experienced and as a key element when guiding users during the process of learning how to use a new digital platform. Moreover, I learnt the importance of testing a product in a real scenario and find time to iterate and improve it based on the outcomes.
