Introduction:
This project was designed during the Industrial Design II class at Politecnico di Bari, where students were asked to design a desk lamp.
Research:
The focus of the research is on the user experience and the ability to change the shape of the lamp to suit different activities. After iterating on the shape and mobility range, we learnt that the best way to avoid shadows on the desk is having two different lighting sources.
Design:
The lamp is designed with the idea of a light source that minimizes shadows on the table while drawing, utilizing two light sources and movable bars to direct light to specific areas of the working surface.
Learnings:
The biggest challenge faced in this project was finding the perfect balance between the movable arms and the base. We learnt that the joints play a key role in the user experience as they should be sturdy enough to keep the arms still, but at the same time they need to allow the user to move the arms with just one hand..
